What is GOTS?
GOTS; Global Organic Textile Standard, which is translated into our language as the Global Organic Textile Standard, is an abbreviation consisting of the initials of the word group. This standard is one of the leading worldwide standards that certifies the entire textile supply chain with independent certification and sets the textile operating conditions for organic fibers, including environmental (ecological) and social criteria. The first version of this standard was published in 2005 by the International Working Group. GOTS Standard; Released on March 1, 2014, 9 years after the first Version was released and Version 4.0 was 3 years after the introduction of Version 3.0. Version 5.0 of this standard is valid since March 2017.
It is stated that the application of this standard is not requested by a law or regulation issued by the state. However, some textile companies in the world require their suppliers to comply with these standards. In addition, documenting compliance with this standard can bring companies international reputation and prestige. The purpose of this standard can be explained as defining the conditions to ensure the organic status of textile products, from the harvest of raw materials to the labeling of the products, in order to give a reliable product to the end consumer with an environmentally and socially responsible production approach.
Textile manufacturers can easily export their organic fabrics and clothing with the GOTS Certificate, which is accepted in all major markets. This standard covers the production, operation, packaging, labeling, trading and distribution of all textile products, at least 70% of which are certified and produced from organic natural fibers. final products; It may include, but is not limited to, fiber products, yarn, fabric, clothing, fashion textile accessories (carried or worn), textile toys, home textiles, bedding and bedding products, as well as personal care products made from textiles. This standard does not define criteria for leather products.
GOTS Consulting
The certification/certification activity related to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) can be referred to as GOTS Certification. The consultancy services provided within the scope of this certification activity are called GOTS Consulting. Managers who want to implement GOTS Standards within their organizations will benefit if they meet with companies that provide consultancy services regarding GOTS standards. There are companies that provide GOTS Consulting services in our country.

Upon successful completion of the GOTS certification (certification), the certified organization has a license or document that will show that it is included in the GOTS program and that allows the use of the GOTS logo. The organization that has this document can attach the GOTS logo to its products.
GOTS Labeling Criteria
In order to demonstrate compliance with the requirements within the scope of GOTS standards, companies can label their products in accordance with GOTS. While making this labeling, it is necessary to pay attention to the following criteria.
• Label Class 1: “Organic”. The textile product bearing this statement must contain at least 95% certified organic fiber.
• Label Class 2: "Made with % Organic". The textile product bearing this statement must contain at least 70% certified organic fiber. It is forbidden to mix conventional (conventional) and organic fibers of the same type in the same product. Conventional cotton, angora wool and virgin polyester are not allowed in the product composition.
Can Both Organic and Conventional Production Companies Produce Products Conforming to GOTS Standard?
The entrepreneur (entrepreneur) engaged in both organic and conventional production and applying for GOTS certification, from the acceptance of the raw material, processing, storage, etc. must take the necessary measures to separate GOTS products (products conforming to GOTS) from non-GOTS products from all stages to sales. The easiest and most effective distinction may be to discriminate based on location. In other words, using different processing lines and warehouses for GOTS products is effective in keeping the products in different places. However, this may not be possible in places where there is a shortage of space. In this case, a distinction can be made in terms of time. In other words, products that comply with GOTS standards and products that do not comply with GOTS standards can be processed on the same line at different times. In this context, the cleaning of the relevant equipment should be done before processing the products conforming to GOTS. Protective measures should be taken to prevent contamination during transportation, storage and production.
