GTP Certificate (Good Trade Practices)
The introduction of safe food and feed products to the market is shown as a problem of good management practices at every stage of feed and food chains from the beginning of production to the end of the process. Good practices must be implemented for good management to be complete. What is expected from operators is to apply good practices for the goods they carry. Regulation (EC) No 183/2005 on feed hygiene and the regulation EC 852/2004 on the hygiene of foodstuffs acknowledges the positive contribution of hygiene practices in achieving the goals or targets set out in the EU food and feed safety legislation. does. On the other hand, it is encouraged to develop national or community guidelines for good practice in the food and feed sectors in consultation with relevant parties on regulations.
When it comes to good hygiene, good management and good practice, understanding and applying Good Trade is sufficient for many of the requirements that are sought. The GTP document is also seen as a law or regulation. The GTP code is a document developed by COCERAL, which is seen as the official and recognized representative for trade in the European Union. Good Trade Practices code is seen as a standard or document showing good hygiene practices for the trade of cereals, oilseeds, protein plants and other plant products in the European Union or to the European Union and the by-products of these plants.
In other words, the European GTP certification business is good for the operators of cereals, oilseeds, protein crops and other herbal products for use as food or feed by professional users, producers or traders for primary processing and for the collection, storage, trade and transportation of by-products derived from them. hygiene practices are recommended. With this code, it is applied in matters such as receiving or sending the goods in question.
GTP certification is a food and food safety provider developed by COCERAL, a European organization that covers corn flakes, rice, animal feed, oilseeds, olive oil and the like. This project, developed by traders, covers the collection, storage, trade and transportation of cornflakes, protein crops, oilseeds and other vegetable products.
It is not valid for farmers who have their own storage facility with a GTP Certificate. The activities of these persons and organizations are covered in the primary production manual and related activities. However, it is possible to apply this document in voluntary activities. Road transport activities are not only certified under the GTP certificate. Since it is an integral part of the contract provisions, the product does not cover its commercial features. The European code of good practice GTP operates as a public document for the collection, storage, trade and transport of feed and food supplies. The certificate can be applied freely to any feed or foodstuff operator.
The GTP Certification plan consists of two documents. These;
• Code of Good Practice
• Certification Rules
GTP certification must be made by authorized companies. The first step is to apply to relevant companies for certification. Afterwards, companies that successfully pass the certification audits have the GTP Certificate certificate for a period of 3 years.
GTP Certificate Benefits
The GTP certificate has certain benefits for companies. If we look at these benefits in substance;
• It largely meets the legal requirements of companies regarding food and food safety and the demands of customers in the food and food chain.
• Certified companies guarantee that practices are in-house in order to minimize risks.
• Provides companies with extra business opportunities related to GTP companies and other participants of the project, which are considered equivalent to them by COCERAL worldwide according to Annex 6 of the GTP statute.
There are certain audit stages in GTP certifications made by authorized companies. With the completion of these stages, companies have certification. In addition, at the end of these audits, companies receive a 3-year GTP certificate, provided that the companies make annual meetings.
Another work carried out similar to good trade practices is the Moral Trade Service or Ethical Trade Service. The audits carried out for activities carried out within this scope are also called Social Compliance Audit (SUD). Looking at the general framework, as mentioned above, GTP Certification is defined as a document applied for all companies of feed and foodstuff operators.
